The Department of Refrigeration and Cryogenics Engineering (RCE) was founded in 2005. It developed from a teaching and research division (1990-1999) for refrigeration and cryogenics technology in department of thermal engineering. With the reform of the university, it has been renamed several times until RCE was built in 2005.

Now RCE has a young team with 10 scientific staff. There are 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 super engineer, 3 lecturers and 5 guest professors. Some of them are members of the following academic organizations related to refrigeration. These include: Chinese Association of Refrigeration (CAR), National Refrigeration Standardization Committee, National Compressor Standardization Committee, Beijing Society of Refrigeration, Commission of Mechatronics in China Electrotechnical Society, Commission of Technology in China Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Industry Association (CRAA). About 100 undergraduates, 22 graduates and 2 Ph.D. students are studying in this department.

The research projects in RCE are supported by government or industry. More than 1000,000 RMB are used for the research. Six prizes were awarded to RCE for their excellent work. Six books and over 100 papers have been published. About 30 papers have been recorded by SCI、EI、ISTP. In addition, there are 8 patents and three of them are invention patents. One of the major contributions has been the CAI software, which was developed here. It is vivid to introduce the refrigeration system and components and welcomed by many universities and industries.

The lab area for the teaching and research is 300 ㎡.

Main Facilities:

1)      The normal experimental setup for refrigeration system
2)      Teaching platform for development of refrigeration/HVAC products
3)      Teaching platform for practice in similar environment of the manufacture process for air   conditioner
4)      The comprehensive setup for automation in refrigeration system
5)      The experimental setup for air source heat pump
6)      The experimental setup for water source heat pump

Main areas of work:

1)      Modern technology of refrigeration system and heat exchanger
2)      Development and application of refrigeration system (heat pump) and main components
3)      Energy comprehensive utilization in refrigeration and HVAC and environmental control 
4)      Measurement technology and automation in refrigeration
